The Shannon Navigation is set to re-open today

Waterways Ireland took the decision to close the boating route between Parteen Weir and Sarsfield Lock in March after safety inspections found that floating breakways and pontoons had been damaged by high levels of flooding this past winter.
The Railway Bridge jetty also required repair while upgrades to the sluice and lock-gates of Sarsfield Lock have also been completed.
Head of Marketing with Waterways Ireland Sharon Lavin says they had no choice but to close the navigation, on safety grounds.
