A meeting of South Clare councillors has heard that new speed limit signs may as well say “160KM/H” due to a lack of gardaí.
In the first phase of speed limit reforms commenced this year, most rural and local roads were reduced from 80 to 60KM/H.

Despite this,major concerns have been raised over excessive speeding on approach to traffic lights at Cratloe Cross, which is often traversed by children going to and from school or the GAA pitch.
Cathaoirleach of the Shannon Municipal District, Cratloe Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat O’Gorman believes the area should be subject to housing estate limits.
