Shannon Hydrogen Project Could Be ‘An Enabler’ For Decarbonising Aviation & Heavy Good Sectors

A cutting-edge hydrogen plant mooted for Shannon Airport is being described as ‘an enabler’ to help decarbonise the aviation and heavy goods sectors throughout Ireland.

Both the Shannon Airport Group and the ESB are to explore setting up a hydrogen lighthouse facility in the area surrounding the airport over the next number of years.

The project includes hydrogen refuelling and battery electric vehicle charging in a single location, which would be the first of its kind in the country.
