Shannon hopeful of numbers boost from ‘The Gathering’

Clare Councillors have called for Shannon to be designated as ‘The Gathering Airport’ for a major tourist event taking place in Ireland next year.

Local representatives are also seeking a meeting with Tourism Minister Michael, and officials responsible for the year-long event which encourages people to organise large get-togethers.

The government hopes that over 300,000 extra people will visit Ireland as part of ‘The Gathering’, which runs throughout 2013.

Clare County Council has also established a working group to discuss how Shannon Airport and the county as a whole can exploit this.
