For the first time in nearly a hundred years a Shannon Hooker is set to be launched off the coast of West Clare today

The restored 25ft wooden sailing boat was originally built to carry turf on the Shannon Estuary when it was a busy shipping and transport artery.
It’s restoration was initiated by members of teh West Clare Currach Club in Kilkee under the Leader Funded Scheme.
Named the Sally O’Keeffe, will be used for sail training by the Seol Sionna community boat-building project.
The craft will be launched at 5pm from Querrin and weather permitting, it will sail to Carrigaholt as part of a parade of craft.
