Shannon Group Supporting 46,000 Jobs And Generating €3.6 Billion Annually

Shannon Group is supporting 46,000 jobs and generating an economic impact of 3.6 billion each year, a new report has revealed.

The semi-state company, which was formed in 2014, comprises of Shannon Airport, Shannon Commercial Properties and Shannon Heritage.

Research carried out by W2 Consulting shows that the group supports 46,000 jobs, while its economic impact is 3.6 billion euro annually.

The report highlights Shannon Group as a key economic engine delivering for this region and outlines ambitious predictions for it for the next few years.

A 150 million euro investment plan to 2021, which was contained in the National Development Plan, is targeting major growth between now and then.

If successful, it’s expected that by 2021, Shannon Group’s annual impact will be 4.2 billion, with 54,000 jobs being supported by it.

Shannon Airport is named as key to this growth, as well as access to third level institutions in the Midwest.

Investment in the Atlantic corridor is one of the key goals
going forward, from Galway, through Shannon and Limerick and onto Cork, to counter-balance the Dublin-centric growth currently being seen.

The Group’s board has expressed hope that they are well positioned to drive plans for balanced regional development down the line, with Shannon Airport the major driver of that growth.
