Shannon Count Concludes – Five New Councillors Elected

Counting has concluded in the Shannon electroral area, with the election of five more Councillors.

On the last count, Independent Gerry Flynn reached the quota, which was exceeded by Fine Gael's John Crowe.

His surplus was insufficient to change the order for the rest of the candidates, so the next three runners were all elected – Independent PJ Ryan and Pat McMahon (FF) retain their seats, while Sinn Féin's Mike McKee brings the party back to the County Council table.

Another sitting Councillor has been eliminated, however.  Fine Gael's Sean McLoughlin, who was co-opted onto the Council after Tony Mulcahy's election as  Senator, will not return to the local authority.

Fine Gael's Gerard Kenney had been eliminated in West Clare, but a full recount is underway as he trailed Patrick Keane by just six votes.

A full recount in Ennis, called after Gerrard O'Halloran lost out by just three votes, is continuing but is expected to finish shortly.
