Shannon Councillors To Debate Rates Cut

Shannon Town Councillors are making a late effort to reduce charges for businesses in the town, before their municipal authority is abolished.

As with Clare’s other Town Councils in Ennis, Kilrush and Kilkee, the Council’s 2014 budget will be it’s last as the government plans to scrap the groups following the local elections in May.

Businesses in the towns concerned have expressed worry that this process will see them pay higher rates charges, as they’re brought into line with the rest of the county, but Shannon Town Council is to debate two separate proposals for rates there to be cut now, in the hope that it helps firms into the future.
