One of Clare's most prominent local representatives of the past 35 years has announced her surprise retirement from politics.
Shannon independent Councillor, Patricia McCarthy says she has considered the decision for a number of weeks, and has decided that 'time is right' to step down after consulting with supporters and her family.

Councillor McCarthy was Mayor of Clare in 2007 and 2008, and has been a member of Clare County Council since 1979 and has been represented on Shannon Town Council since it was first established in 1982.
