A Shannon Councillor says the refusal of planning permission for an ALDI store there is of ‘huge disappointment’ to the town.
The retail giant has failed for a second time to secure a new outlet in Shannon, with an April 2021 decision by Clare County Council being upheld by An Bord Pleanala.
The appeals board concluded that the project fails to provide ‘a satisfactory level of urban design and street frontage’ and would undermine the delivery of the Limerick-Shannon Metropolitan Area Strategic Plan.
Shannon-based Sinn Fein Councillor Donna McGettigan is hitting out at the decision, and believes the works would have enhanced the town as a whole.
