Shannon Councillor Disatisfied With Response To Decreasing Dentists Seeing Medical Card Holders

A Shannon Councillor is disatisfied with Department of Health’s plans to address the decreasing number of dentists treating medical card holders in Clare.

Sinn Féin Councillor Donna McGettigan has previously called on Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly to intervene and engage with dentists in Clare to prevent a total collapse of the Dental Treatment Services Scheme.

19 dentists are believed to be currently operating the scheme in this county, and the Department and the HSE are engaging with dentists and that a review of the scheme is to be carried out.

While Councillor McGettigan welcomes the review, she feels the additional €10 million allocated in the budget to tackle the issues won’t be sufficient for the people of Clare.
