A Shannon councillor is calling for the installation of CCTV cameras in the town park to deter anti-social behaviour.
At this month’s meeting of the Shannon Municipal District, Sinn Féin Councillor Donna McGettigan called for a risk assessment on the need and reason for the re-establishment of the cameras under the new guidelines.
However, Clare County Council’s Data Protection Officer, Fiona Mooney, has outlined the lengthy process involved in doing so – including consultation with the Gardaí, Joint Policing Committee, Garda Comissioner and the Department of Justice.
Councillor McGettigan believes the process shouldn’t be this complex regarding a public area.
