Shannon Councillor Calls For CCTV In Town Park To Deter Anti-Social Behaviour

A Shannon councillor is calling for the installation of CCTV cameras in the town park to deter anti-social behaviour.

At this month’s meeting of the Shannon Municipal District, Sinn Féin Councillor Donna McGettigan called for a risk assessment on the need and reason for the re-establishment of the cameras under the new guidelines.

However, Clare County Council’s Data Protection Officer, Fiona Mooney, has outlined the lengthy process involved in doing so – including consultation with the Gardaí, Joint Policing Committee, Garda Comissioner and the Department of Justice.

Councillor McGettigan believes the process shouldn’t be this complex regarding a public area.
