Gardaí, the Clare Fire Service and the Army Bomb Disposal Team were all involved in the pre-planned exercise which took place early yesterday morning, and saw the substances removed from a facility in the Smithstown Industrial Estate.

The chemicals were then transferred to a quarry in Bunratty where they were disposed of.

Gardaí insist there was no threat to public safety but Shannon Independent Councillor Patricia McCarthy insists the people in the town need to be given more information.
