A Shannon company is aiming to provide the “next generation” of drug detection technology to be used along Clare’s coast.
Shannon firm A-techsyn, which manufactures high-tech drones including specialist drug interdiction military equipment, has enterted into the DTIF-GUard initiative with the Naval Service to provide surveillance technology for monitoring drug traffickers.
The firm has been granted authorisation by the Irish Aviation Authority to use airspace off the coast of Doonbeg – thus allowing it travel 28 kilometres out and 2,500 feet high as it perfects the unmanned aircraft.
Administrative Manager Denis Collins says their collaboration with the navy has given them access to vital information which is aiding them in developing the tech.
