Shannon Cabin Manager Says Airport Could Become ‘Mothball’ If Aer Lingus Close Its Base

A Cabin Services Manager at Shannon Airport believes the facility could become a ‘mothball’ with government intervention into Aer Lingus closing its crew base there.

The Oireachtas Transport Committee, which includes several Clare representatives, has heard from cabin staff at the airport who are set to lose their jobs on account of the move.

Gerry Clarke has told the Committee that he’s fearful the removal of Aer Lingus’ Shannon cabin crew base will lead to no early morning flights there, including the Heathrow route.

He says without further assistance from the State, the Midwest region could ‘crumble’.
