Shannon Business Owner Implores Justice Minister To Triple Garda Numbers Following Break-in, Hold-Up and Assault Incidents

A Shannon business owner is imploring the Justice Minister to triple garda numbers and drastically increase members’ pay.

It follows the burglary of an off-licence in Drumgeely in the early hours of Saturday morning, during which damage was caused to the front door of the premises and a number of items were taken.

The owner of the business has been telling Clare FM’s Morning Focus that in separate incidents, he was attacked and beaten after following a shoplifter from the premises, while he’s also been held at knife point.

Jim Moran insists that local Gardaí are doing what they can to deal with such incidents, but he believes there simply isn’t enough resources on the ground to prevent retail theft.
