Shannon-Based Rescue 115 Rescues Faroese Man Off West Coast

The Shannon-based coastguard helicopter has rescued a man from a faroese fishing vessel off the west coast overnight.

While on a Maritime Security and Defence patrol, the LÉ Róisín received a distress call regarding a crew man suffering chest pains on board the vessel, 225 nautical miles off Bantry Bay.

Rescue 115 was called in to assist the Air Corps Maritime Patrol Aircraft and arrived on scene at around 8.30 last night, during difficult weather conditions.

Within an hour, the fisherman was airlifted to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.
