A Clare member of the Irish Pharmacy Union is calling for the Government to urgently introduce a minor ailments scheme.
The initiative would allow pharmacists to dispense non prescription medication to medical card users in financial difficulty .

In 2021, pharmacies across the country distributed over 82 million items, however, the amount pharmacists can claim back from the state has reduced from an average of €6 per item in 2009 to just €4.74 last year.
