Dr Yvonne Williams says increased workload and a lack of resources mean GPs are spending less time in consultations with what she believes are worrying consequences for patients.
In its pre-budget submission, the National Association of General Practicioners says shorter consultation times leads to higher prescription rates and more referrals to already overcrowded hospitals.
Dr Williams says a 40% reduction in income given to GPs to provide services and hire staff is having a serious impact on care given to patients.
