Shannon Area Has Most PUP Recipients In Clare

The Shannon area has more people availing of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment than any other part of Clare.

New figures suggest more than 1,700 people are still receiving the State support in this county.

Data from the Central Statistics Office shows 454 people living in the Shannon environs received the PUP in the last week of October.

397 people in the Ennis electoral area availed of the payment the same week, with 316 in the Ennistymon region.

301 people are on the PUP in East Clare, with just 258 recipients of the support in the Kilrush electoral area – one of the lowest figures in the country.

The CSO has also accumulated figures regarding the total number of people to have accessed the PUP at any time between March 2020 and October 2021.

20,973 people have availed of it in this county – 5,841 of these in Ennis.

4,874 were in the Shannon area, with 3,497 in North Clare.

3,467 people in West Clare have availed of the PUP since March 2020, with 3,294 recipients in the Killaloe electoral area.

1,726 people received the Pandemic Unemployment Payment here at the end of October – the lowest since COVID-19 hit our shores.
