Aer Lingus is expected to announce a new route linking Shannon Airport with Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport this morning.

The former flag carrier has called media to an event at Shannon, where it will announce details of its Summer 2020 schedule.

It says this will include details of “exciting European destinations” which, Clare FM understands, will include flights to Paris and to Barcelona.

The Paris flight in particular will be a boost for Shannon, as it gives the Airport direct connectivity to a mainland European hub, and a second hub airport on top of London Heathrow.

The news has already been welcomed by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.
