Shannon Airport is to receive a further boost following the announcement of a new service to Frankfurt.
Lufthansa is introducing it's first ever scheduled air service from the mid-west airport in April next year.
In what's described as a significant milestone for Shannon Airport, Lufthansa will be introducing it's first ever scheduled air service from Clare to Frankfurt next summer.
The airport is the fourth busiest in Europe, connecting to 275 destinations in 111 countries.
Lufthansa is Germany's largest airline and, combined with its subsidiaries, is also one of the largest in Europe, both in terms of passengers carried and fleet size.
From April 29th next year, it's to operate a weekly service each Saturday until October 28th.
It's the second new service to be announced in just over four weeks – last month SAS announced flights to Stockholm in 2017.
In a statement to Clare FM, the Chief Executive of Shannon Group Matthew Thomas has described today's announcement as great news for the tourism industry along the west coast and beyond.
