The Met station at Shannon Airport recorded the highest temperature in the country yesterday, where the mercury rose to 25.7 degrees.

Overall, just over 105 hours of sunshine was recorded there in the past week, which means it’s the hottest it’s been for an extended period since 1995.

There’s no end in sight for the current spell of hot, dry weather, with temperatures expected to remain in the 20’s for the coming days, and most areas experiencing sunshine until the end of the week at least.

There are concerns however, that the lack of rainfall may lead to water shortages, particularly in the North Clare area, which has already witnessed a drop in reservoir levels.

Met Eireann forecaster, Linda Hughes says it’ll also become increasingly warm at night.
