The airline's Irish subsidiary has been embroiled in a long-running battle to secure a silence for the flights in the US, where concerns have been expressed about work practices.

Shannon has now made a submission to the US Department of Transport, and says the new route would boost tourism on both sides of the Atlantic.

Norwegian has struck a deal to fly from Shannon to Boston, and it's understood the flights could start soon after the licensing process is complete.
