Seven Clare primary schools are set to benefit from a State initiative targeted at improving road safety.
Transport Minister Eamon Ryan and Minister of State James Lawless have confirmed that 141 schools across the country have been added to the latest round of the National Transport Authority’s Safe Routes to School programme.
Barefield National School, Killaloe Boys National School and Mullagh National School will have improvements added such as pencil shaped bollards, colourful road markings, improved footpaths and pedestrian crossings to encourage traffic to slow down.
The schools in Ballycar, Caherea, Lakyle and Toonagh meanwhile will have special measures for schools on Higher Speed Rural Roads put in place meanwhile, including signage and road markings aimed at encouraging lower speeds and more attentive driving.
