Seven people have been brought to safety by the RNLI after their boat became stranded on Lough Derg.

Four adults and three children were on board a 60 foot cruiser, which ran aground on hazardous shoal in Coose Bay, near Whitegate yesterday afternoon.

The Lough Derg RNLI were dispatched to the scene and the passengers were found to be well and unharmed, though an inspection of the vessel reveal significant damage to the rudder.

The RNLI is advising boat users ‘to remain with the navigation marks, and to ask locals about hazards before setting out from harbour’.
