Last month was the warmest September on record at Shannon Airport.
CSO figures stretching back as far as 1969 have not seen the high average of 15.8 degrees that was recorded last month at the county’s airport.
The mercury hit an average of 15.7 degrees back in 2006, with mean temperatures rarely hitting over 15 degrees since records began.

The highest temperature taken on the thermomoter at Shannon in September 2021 was 27.9 degrees, while the lowest came in at 6.9 degrees.
