Liam McKee, a father of four grown-up children, lives with his separated wife at Cronan Gardens, Shannon, but told Ennis District Court that it is "very difficult" for him to get access to the television.

The court heard that he advised his wife to take out a license in her own name, and that he goes to his mother's house when he wants to watch a match.

Mr. McKee had been facing a 1,000 euro fine for non-payment of his television license, but the case was dismissed by Judge Patrick Durcan after hearing the evidence.
