29-year-old Simon Gentles of Casement Grove, Finglas, Dublin, pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary at a home in Sixmilebridge on January 7th, 2010.

He was sentenced to four years in jail in 2012, but this has now been increased to ten years, with the final four suspended, on foot of an application by the DPP.

The court heard that Gentles was armed with a sawn-off shotgun when he forced his way into the rural home while his co-accused remained outside, and that he subjected those inside to what was described as a terrifying ordeal.
