The jury in the Colm Deely murder trial has heard evidence from a second senior pathologist who disputes some of the medical evidence previous presented to the court.
41 year Colm Deely from School Road Ballyvaughan denies murdering guest house worker Deirdre McCarthy between 11pm on March 27, 2011 and noon the following day.
State Pathologist for Northern Ireland Jack Crane said he wrote a report on the de fence’s request to provide impartial evidence to the court.
Professor Crane stated that bruising found on the body of Ms McCarthy may have occurred after death –
Deputy State Pathologist Dr Khalid Jabbar previously told the court that blunt force trauma was a contributing factor, but Professor Crane said it was difficult to see if bruises were caused during life or after death adding a body in water may come into contact with objects and sustain injury.
However he concurred with Dr Jabber’s findings that the 43 year old guest house worker died of manual strangulation
Professor Crane also said there was no evidence of a sexual assault and no evidence Ms McCarthy was alive when she entered the water.
