The company has told Clare FM the fault caused the cancellation of a scheduled flight from Shannon to Boston on Wednesday, resulting in disruption for around 500 passengers, both here and in the United States.

More than 250 passengers had to spend the night in the Shannon area and some of them were accommodated on alternative flights today.

However, Aer Lingus was unable to facilitate around 100 passengers due to high flight occupancy at this time of year and they’ll now have to stay a second night in Shannon.

An Aer Lingus Spokesperson has told Clare FM that they will travel by bus to Dublin airport in the morning and will then fly direct to Boston.
