A major search operation off the West Clare coast has been stood down after a car was taken from the water there last night.
Emergency services recovered the car from the sea at Quilty after it was seen crashing into the water.
The alarm was raised around 8 o'clock last night when eye witnesses reported seeing the vehicle crashing into the water from the end of the pier in Quilty.
The Doolin and Kilkee units of the Irish Coast Guard were dispatched to the scene, along with the Shannon based search and rescue helicopter.
However, when the car emerged from the water no passengers were found inside.
It's not yet known how the vehicle got into the water.
