The company assessing lands in and around the Quin area as a possible site for a zinc mine say they’re making progress in their endeavours.
Hannan Metals have been analysing a 35,000 hectare area near to a former zinc mine at Kilbreckan, which closed in the Victorian era.
As part of their operation, the company has established an office in Quin, though they say it’s too soon to determine whether they’ll be successful in finding enough zinc deposits to make any potential mine viable.
It has previously been estimated that any new mine could support up to 2,000 jobs, although if that is to become a reality it is still a number of years away.
