Search For New Post-Fleadh Draw To Ennis

Efforts are underway to harness the momentum of the Fleadh for the benefit of Ennis.

After the town successfully hosted the world’s largest traditional music festival, local business groups are seeking ways to welcome crowds back to Clare’s County Town to either a new event, or through the strengthening of some of the existing festivals.

It’s only four days since the curtain came down on the overwhelmingly successful Fleadh, which attracted around 450,000 people to Ennis and the county, and now pressure is on to find a way to build on it’s success, before momemtum dissipates.

The Chair of Clare Vintners Association believes the Fleadh gave Ennis the confidence it’s been lacking to develop a major annual festival.

Darragh McAllister says the county town has everything that’s needed to pull it off.

While Margaret O’Brien, who was recently appointed as Festival & Event Co-ordinator for Ennis, believes we should work to promote our existing festivals first.

She says there are a number of events in Ennis that have played a major role in our cultural landscape over the past number of years.

The President of Ennis Chamber agrees that there should be a focus on developing existing festivals, and he’s suggested that businesses and the Council works together in a bid to build on momentum.

William Cahir says it’s something that shouldn’t be left to gather dust.
