The Education Minister has been told that an “essential and critical” need for a classroom at a North Clare primary school has been exacerbated by the impending opening of a direct provision centre in Lisdoonvarna.
Senator Martin Conway has told the Seanad there are already 91 students in Doolin National School, which is just over four miles from where the facility is due to open next week.
The school population is due to grow to 95 in September, a number which Senator Conway feels could grow further with the opening of the new centre.
After he outlined the failed efforts to date to secure a new classroom, Education Minister Richard Bruton responded by saying the Doolin application remains under review.
