Seafield Conservation Forum Claim Public Liability Concerns Ruled Out Beach Car Park

The Seafield Conservation Forum insists that a car park could not be built on commonage adjacent to the prominent beach due to public liability concerns.

Funding had previously been obtained for the provision of a car park in the Seafield area, however not specifically at the sandhills land parcel.

The allocation was subsequently sent back to the Department after no definitive car park site had been identified, no environmental assessment had been carried and ultimately the Local Authority could not gain planning permission.

Co-Moderator of the Seafield Conservation Forum, Caroline Egan says the process was legally unsound for all parties involved.

The Clare County Council have made a response to the situation.

“Clare County Council is available to meet local landowners to discuss any proposed partnership project to benefit Quilty locals and visitors alike in terms of needs and services required at this very special beach amenity. However, to date there has been differing local views – some as represented by the below email and others when they engaged with the Council who did not share all of those views as expressed below. The Council is very open to listening to all views as part of an appropriate process and adhering to relevant procedures and policies.

The West Clare Municipal District has been working with both sides on this for a number of years. We will continue to engage and hopefully the local situation will come to a common understanding that is acceptable.”
