Scattery Island Sees Drop In Visitor Numbers

A Clare heritage site has seen an almost 7% drop in visitor numbers in the space of a year.

New figures from the Office of Public Works show 13.8 million people visited its 780 heritage sites last year.

The Ennis Friary says a total of 15,432 people passed through its gates in 2024 which was up from the 2023 figure of 15,181.

Scattery Island meanwhile had 4,398 visitors which was over 300 fewer than the figure for the previous year.

Dublin Castle was the most visited OPW-operated heritage site in Ireland last year with 727,189 people paying a visit.
