Ryanair to Grow Traffic in Shannon

Ryanair has confirmed it will grow traffic through Irish airports  – including Shannon – by at least 1 million passengers following the budget announcement that the 3 euro travel tax is to be abolished.

The airline says management at Shannon and other airports are being invited to meetings to finalise it’s growth plans and see how the extra business can be divided between the airports.

Speaking in Dublin this afternoon Ryanair’s Chief Operations Officer Michael Cawley said he expects new flights will be announced for Shannon, particularly as the airline has significantly increased it’s list of interational destinations.

The airline says the increase in passenger numbers will help create a thousand new jobs, 200 by Ryanair itself.

Chief Operations Officer Michael Cawley says the budget decision was a good one.

"It was one of the earliest things he mentioned but one of the least publicised" he said.

"But because we have been campaigning for this for some time, as ever with Ryanair we have a plan, hopefully one that’ll work – one that we want to tell you about today which we hope to put into action very quickly".

"This is a very positive step for Irish tourism, Irish business, Irish aviation and Irish jobs" he added.
