Ryanair says today’s announcement of new routes from Shannon Airport is the beginning of much more.

The airline is to launch eight new routes from Shannon to Paris, Nice, Berlin, Munich, Warsaw, Kracow, Faro and Fuerteventura, a move which will deliver 300,000 additional passengers each year.

Ryanair estimates this will create 300 direct and indirect jobs in Shannon.

The new flights will launch in April of next year, after the travel tax is formally abolished.

Transport Minister Leo Varadkar has said the move is an endorsement of the decision to scrap the travel tax, while the move has been hailed by local tourism groups as a positive development.
