Ryanair has announced that it is to re-open its Shannon Airport base for the summer of 2021.

The airline, which had closed its base in October, will base one aircraft at Shannon next year, and operate 32 weekly flights to 14 destinations in Portugal, Spain, the UK, Lithuania and Poland.

Ryanair says its announcement will support over 330 direct and indirect jobs in the MidWest next year.

The news has been welcomed by Shannon Airport, who say it will held them to rebuild from the devastation of the COVID pandemic.

Shannon Group CEO Mary Considine believes the move will give people confidence to fly in and out of the region’s main airport next summer.
