A large renewable energy company has lodged an application to Clare County Council to develop a wind farm in East Clare.
The proposed Fahy Beg wind farm is located approximately 6km south west of Killaloe and 1.5km north of Bridgetown.
RWE Renewables LTD lodged the plans on Friday, with pre-validation of the application now underway.
The proposed wind farm comprises lands at Fahy Beg, Fahy More North, Ballymoloney and Ballyknavin townlands and measures approximately 320 hectares.
The development will consist of 8 wind turbines, a permanent meteorological mast to a height of 100m above ground level, a 38kV electrical substation and an underground grid connection cable to the national grid.
Investment in the proposed Fahy Beg Wind Farm and local communities is expected to be in the region of €30 million over its lifetime.
The application is seeking a ten-year planning permission and 35 year operational life from the date of commissioning of the wind farm.
An Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) and Natura Impact Statement (NIS) have been prepared also.
Once the application is validated, a decision is expected from the council by March.
