Rural Residents Urged To Visit Neighbours Living Alone

People in rural areas are being urged to visit neighbours living alone over the winter months.

It comes after new research revealed that up to a quarter of people in the farming community said they would have difficulties discussing personal their problems. 

A study by the Irish Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy found that rural men, in particular, were reluctant to disclose problems, even to a GP. 

Shane Kelly of the ICAP says farmers are at particular risk of isolation and its damaging effects.
