Ennis and Shannon have seen their roads funding budgets for this year slashed.
Clare County Council has revealed that while its overall roads maintenance budget for 2025 has increased by almost €3 million, two of the county’s five municipal districts will have less money to spend in this respect.
Clare’s total roads funding allocation for this year stands at €27.44 million which is up 12% on 2024.
The two most populous municipal districts, namely Ennis and Shannon, have had their funding cut by 12% and 7%, respectively.
The county town has been given €3.38 million for roads maintenance while Shannon has been allocated €2.92 million.
Killaloe is among the county’s winners when it comes to roads funding, having had its budget boosted by 18% to €7.17 million.
The Ennistymon area’s roads budget has gone up by 2% to €5.42 million.
The municipal district with the greatest amount to spend on roads maintenance is Kilrush which has been granted €8.56 million – an increase of 40% on 2024.
