Two people have died in a road traffic accident in South-East Clare last night.

The single-vehicle collision occurred at around midnight in the townsland of Whitehall in Parteen, close to Limerick City.

The car crashed into a wall before becoming engulfed in fire and destroyed by the flames.

Two other men remain in hospital with serious injuries.

The fire and ambulance services attended the scene, along with Gardaí who are continuing their investigations.

Mayor of Clare, Fianna Fáil’s Cathal Crowe teaches in nearby Parteen National School – he’s been telling Clare FM’s James Mulhall that the community has been shaken by the news:

Gardaí at Mayorstone Station in Limerick are appealing for witnesses or those with dashcam footage to contact them on 061 456 980.
