Fear N68 Accidents Have ‘Shot Up’ Since Controversial Speed Limit Changes

It’s feared the number of accidents on the N68 main Ennis to Kilrush road has skyrocketed since the controversial change of speed limits last year.

There are now no less than 11 different speed zone changes along the route, which are said to be causing tailbacks and driver frustration, among other issues.

The most up to date figures available shows that 97 incidents occurred on the 43km route between 2015 and 2017, five of which caused serious injury, though it’s hoped the 2019 figure will soon be provided, to see if the alleged spike is true.

Kilrush Independent Councillor Ian Lynch put down a motion seeking the data and says it’s of critical importance to road safety for motorists that the new speed limit regime is abolished.
