There are now 5,198 people in this county drawing some form of unemployment benefit, according to the latest figures from the CSO.

That’s up from 5,093 a month ago, with all areas of the county experiencing marginal rises.

In the Ennis area, there are 2,758 people in dole queues, while the next highest is in West Clare, where 828 drew the dole in June.

A further 821 people were in dole queues in North Clare, while East Clare had 791 signing on.

But despite the rise of 105 in the space of a month, it’s still a significant reduction in the numbers seen a year ago.

There’s been a 14 percent reduction in the number of people in Clare’s dole queues in the last 12 months, with over 6,000 signing on this month last year.
