Shannon Airport says there's been a rise in passenger numbers over the past year despite a drop in air traffic.
Figures released by the Irish Aviation Authority show air traffic using the airport has dropped by 2.6% in January compared to the same month last year, amounting to an average of 39 commerical flights moving in and out of the airport daily.
But, a spokesperson for Shannon Airport says passenger numbers are in fact up 6% in the past year and the fewer planes passing through is down to an increased use of wide-bodied aircraft with greater capacity.
The Mid-West Airport is expecting further increased capacity in 2016.
