There’s been a rise in the number of people claiming unemployment benefit in Clare in the last month.
New figures from the Central Statistics Office show almost 3,800 men and women in this county were on social welfare in October.
An additional 165 people joined the Live Register in Clare over the month, and although this represents an increase of just 4%, this means approximately 3,734 people here are now claiming unemployment benefit.
All of Clare’s offices saw a jump in presentations last month, with centres in the West and North of the county busiest.
Both Kilrush and Ennistymon recorded a 10% monthly increase, with 644 and 625 people joining their respective dole queues.
Ennis, once again accounted for the lions share of presentations in the county, with over 1,960 claiming benefits in the town.
East Clare saw a modest increase on the other hand, with just an additional 15 people signing on in Tulla, bringing the region’s total to 499.
Countywide, 51% of those claiming unemployment benefit were male, while 49% were female.
