It’s not a surprise to see a spike in the live register in June.

Even during the economic boom, each June saw additional people sign on after the end of the academic year.

This year, an additional 73 people joined the dole queues here – last year the increase for this month was 112.

The biggest jump came in Ennis, where 57 people signed on while there was also a rise of 37 in the East of the County.

There was better news elsewhere, however, with small falls of 14 in the unemployment indicator in West Clare and a further fall of 7 in the North of the county.

The number of people claiming some form of unemployment benefit in Clare has declined by over 800 to 6075, a 12.5% drop in the past year.
