The local authority’s Estate Management Team carries out routine inspections of social housing units and also responds to calls relating to anti-social behaviour.

66 complaints were made in February alone which brings the total for this year so far up to 107.

By contrast, just 70 complaints were recorded for the same period in 2023, meaning the level of complaints this year is 53% up on last year.

370 routine housing inspections have been conducted in the first two months of 2024, including 180 in Shannon in January and a further 190 in Ennis in February.

Over the course of these inspections, 13 referrals have been made to Tenancy Sustainment Services including Tusla, 10 tenancy warnings or notifications were issued and eight properties were recorded as abandoned.

The local authority has confirmed that one property was successfully repossessed in court in January following multiple breaches of a Tenancy Agreement.

The Estate Management Team has expressed its intention to carry out a further 2,000 inspections on social housing units in Clare this year, with follow-up calls scheduled for roughly 10% to ensure compliance “with issues of concern”.
